Ty Simpson Pick At Thirteen Was Shocking

The Solid Verbal

"I can't believe Ty Simpson went number 13… The list of guys who come out with like 15 starts in college, into the NFL, there's a healthy list of them, and they're all, they don't work."

Context

Dan and Jason both flagged the Rams' pick of Ty Simpson at #13 as the most surprising of the first round. Simpson started just 15 college games. The historical bust rate for QBs with that few starts who go top-15 is essentially total. The structural defense for the pick is Sean McVay's system around him and Stetson Bennett holding QB2 cover. After-the-fact disclosure: the Rams GM is close with Jason Simpson (Ty's dad) and reportedly advised Ty to enter the draft.
