Memphis Tigers

American program covered in the 2026 preview slate.

Current Show Posture

As of 2026-08-30:

The 2026 G6 Preview Part 1 read: The American has enough turnover and imbalance that seven teams can be argued into contention even if each has an obvious missing half; Memphis has enough talent and history to contend, but coach and roster churn make the Tigers a true X-factor rather than a comfortable pick. This is the front-door summary for the team-specific preview coverage; the running takes below remain the source links for the underlying arguments.

The 27–21 win over UNLV upgrades Memphis from an interesting but hard-to-trust X-factor to a live G6 conversation. Charles Huff's team trailed by seven three times, answered each time, and scored the final 13 points despite roughly 50 new players and a new coaching setup.

The pass rush is the clearest anchor: Memphis kept coming after early tackling and run-defense issues, sacking Jackson Arnold six times and taking over late. One road win does not erase the roster churn or make the Tigers safe, but it makes Ty's preseason playoff idea materially less far-fetched.
