As of 2026-07-21:

The show now treats BYU as a real Big 12 top-dog candidate, even though Texas Tech created head-to-head separation in 2025. BYU's case is not that the Cougars clearly passed Texas Tech; it is that the Big 12 has enough credible contenders for BYU to remain one of the teams that can get back to the title-game conversation if the roster answers land.

The July preview posture is respectful but conditional. BYU is part of the league's remembered top shelf, while the unresolved question is whether it can close the gap Texas Tech exposed when those teams met.
