Ronaldo negates Portugal's creative strength
Context
Bill calls Portugal the funniest roster in the field because it has elite creative talent everywhere, then still routes too much of the team through 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo. The result is a team capable of winning the whole tournament that also undercuts its own best quality.
For the college-football vault, this is useful as a roster-construction analogy: star gravity can become a structural tax. Portugal's biggest name still has to play, but the team is worse when its creators are reduced to feeding an aging target who no longer presses or offers a full game.
