Notre Dame missing the playoff would be an unmitigated failure.

Context

Both hosts place Notre Dame at the top of their fields and project a 12-0 regular season. The standard is unusually high because the roster is treated as excellent beyond the favorable schedule, CJ Carr is expected to hold the quarterback job, and the program has already reached the national-title stage in the recent cycle.

The hosts leave room for injury, but not for an ordinary season in which Notre Dame simply fails to clear the playoff line. Making the field is the minimum outcome; making the final four is also described as close to the expectation.
