SEC DC Turnover Is the Under-Discussed Story

The Solid Verbal

What interests me is that we've got a lot of turnover at defensive coordinator. By my count, about nine of 16 teams that have some kind of meaningful defensive shift. Tennessee hired Jim Knowles. Texas brought back Will Muschamp. Ole Miss hired Marcus Woodson. Arkansas with Ron Roberts. Kentucky with Jay Bateman. Florida with Brad White from Kentucky. Mississippi State bringing back Zach Arnett. The defensive coordinator turnover is the kind of thing that I think is going to shape September in a way that I'm not sure how many antennas are talking about.

Context

Ty's planted flag in the episode — the SEC offseason story dominating coverage has been QB shuffle and portal spend, but the genuine schematic upheaval is on the defensive side, where more than half the conference is running new systems.

The DC turnover roll call: - Jim Knowles → Tennessee - Will Muschamp → Texas - Marcus Woodson → Ole Miss - Ron Roberts → Arkansas - Jay Bateman → Kentucky - Brad White → Florida (from Kentucky) - Zach Arnett → Mississippi State - Plus internal promotions Ty alluded to but didn't enumerate
