Arkansas year-one hope is a defensive heartbeat

Ty Hildenbrandt

"You could start with defense at Arkansas."

Context

Michael's Arkansas question asks what hope looks like when portal churn makes the old rebuild model harder to see. Ty's answer starts with defense because Arkansas has had no real defensive pulse in recent seasons and hired Ron Roberts to fix it.

The broader evaluative frame is effort and growth, not record. Ty wants to see whether Arkansas plays hard late in losses and improves across the season instead of bleeding out after the first month. Dan adds that low expectations and unfamiliarity can be freeing: with new faces everywhere, a defensive heartbeat and a few one-score flips are enough to make year one feel useful.
