Virginia Tech's Franklin reset is more than a normal year-one rebuild
Ty Hildenbrandt
"It's not like your standard-issue reboot."
Context
Ty goes over 6.5 because the old rebuild model does not fit this Virginia Tech. James Franklin has already changed organization, recruiting interest, and portal talent, and the returning-production number reflects experienced college players even if they are not returning to Blacksburg specifically.
The offensive plan is still not fully proven. Ethan Grunkemeyer has only partial-season evidence, the play caller is new, and the offensive line remains a live question. The schedule also saves the hardest questions for the road: Clemson, SMU, and Miami.
Still, the early path of VMI, ODU, Maryland, Boston College, Pitt, Cal, and Georgia Tech gives Virginia Tech enough runway to reach seven if the new roster is competent quickly. The show is treating Franklin's move as a portal-era transplant build rather than a slow cultural rebuild.
