Alabama Is Building for 2027
Bill Connelly
"If you told me he's just building to have a top five team in 2027, then all of this starts to make sense to me. Right down to probably having a redshirt freshman quarterback. He's basically coaching like he knows he's going to have a job in 2027, which I guess, I mean, he just signed an extension, which shocked the crap out of me too."
Context
Bill's structural read on Alabama's offseason. The OL transfer haul reads as a future-build, not a 2026-contender play: Mississippi State junior, Texas sophomore, two Michigan redshirt freshmen, Cal Poly FCS junior. New OL coach Adrian Klemm. The Keelon Russell redshirt-freshman QB story is load-bearing — they need a Heisman-redshirt-freshman year for any of this to work in 2026. DeBoer's April extension reinforces the read: he's coaching with 2027 job security.
The take pairs cleanly with the show's existing DeBoer posture — manufactured hot seat / structural defense — but adds a more specific structural diagnosis: the program is openly building two years out.
